General Description

The League has been established to provide club members a venue for NRA sanctioned high power rifle competition at a reduced range of 100 yards. To accomplish this, reduced size targets representing 200, 300, and 600 yard shooting are utilized. The actual course fired is the National Match Course (NRA HPC), modified. This course can be used to establish NRA classification as well as to qualify for purchasing an M-1 Garand through the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). A total of eight matches are fired starting in April and ending in October. Generally, one match is fired each month, on the third weekend. Modifications to this schedule are frequently made each year to accommodate local scheduling conflicts at the Club. Participation in the League is open to all members for an annual fee of $27.00, if scores are to be submitted to the NRA, or $20.00 for local League competition. The fee covers all targets and Awards at the end of the year.

Equipment

Any centerfire rifle, in safe operating condition, may be used. However, since this is a military style match that requires reloading with a clip or magazine in four of the six stages of fire, a rifle that can be clip or magazine fed (including at least one extra magazine or clip) is a practical necessity. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required, as well as an NRA approved OBI (Open Bolt Indicator available at the Club for a $1.00 fee). Optical or laser sights are not allowed. A ground cloth is a necessity, and other items such as binoculars or a spotting scope, shooting glove and jacket, rifle sling, etc., are desirable but not required.

Location, Time and Conduct of Matches

The 100yard restricted use range is where all shoots are conducted. First line to fire starts at 7am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday. Firing point assignments are made on a first come, first serve basis, with priority given to shooters who are shooting the current month’s match. Make-up shoots are allowed, as well as a maximum of two shoot ahead shoots per season. No more than two shoots can be fired on a given day or more than a total of four shoots on a weekend. Practice shoots are allowed but must be declared to the Range Officer in advance, and can not be fired until all other shooters have been accommodated on the line. Any shoot not declared as practice will be scored as a regular shoot. A score must be submitted for every shoot fired, even if a shooter does not complete the match for any reason. If no score is submitted, a DNF (did not finish) will be assigned, and a score of zero recorded. Two lines are routinely run each day, which will accommodate thirty-two shooters. If a minimum of three shooters wish to shoot on a third line, and a Range Officer is available and willing to run the line, a third line will be run. Each line takes approximately 1-1/2 hours.

Actual match scheduling is provided on the League sign-up sheet sent out each year, a copy of which is posted on the Club bulletin board.

Rules

NRA High Power rules will govern conduct of the match. A challenge fee of $1.00 will be charged.

Classification

For those who elect to have scores submitted to the NRA, this will be done at the conclusion of the season.

For purposes of League trophies, classification will be determined by taking the total number of shooters who have completed a minimum of five shoots the previous season, and dividing that number into four groups, in descending score order, representing Master, Expert, Sharpshooter and Marksman classes. A new shooter will automatically be placed in the Master class for the first year of competition. At the end of the season, trophies will be awarded to 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place Master, and 1^st place for each other classification.

Notes:

1. Mandatory reloading during rapid-fire stages is required as per NRA rules.

2. Rifle safety must be on before loading and assuming firing position. Only M-1 Garand shooters may close their bolt prior to attaining final position before shooting. All others may not close the bolt until in the firing position.

Miscellaneous

1. OBI’s must be in place before the line is declared safe.

2. Spotting for or coaching a shooter is not allowed.

3. Any activity behind the line, including talking, should be subdued so as to not disturb the people on the line shooting.

4. Targets will be scored by the shooter, and turned in to the Range Officer.

5. Brass should not be policed except when the line has been declared safe.
